This Week: 0-1 (To quote Tommy Stoessor, “Sigh…”)
Season Total: 48-13
Championship Games:
· ACC: #15 Virginia Tech vs. #21 Florida State-Props to Mark Stoops. He took over a defense ranked at the bottom of the ACC & turned them into the 11th best defense in points allowed. In fact they’ve allowed over 20 points only three times this season, which just so happens to be the three games they lost. It also so happens that Tyrod Taylor & the rest of the Hokies offense has only scored under 20 once this season, a 19-0 victory over Boston College. I’ll take VT to win its 11th straight.
Virginia Tech 27, Florida State 20
· Big 12: #9 Oklahoma vs. #13 Nebraska-Not only will this be one last battle for conference supremacy between two of the great powers in Big 12 history, before Nebraska moves north to the Big 10, but it will be an interesting game between two contrasting offensive styles. Oklahoma scores 38 points a game fueled by their 4th ranked passing game, while Nebraska scores 34 a game powered by their hard charging rushing attack. With Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez questionable for the game I should probably pick the Sooners, but gosh darnit I picked Nebraska to win it all at the beginning of the year & twice before I’ve correctly predicted upsets over the Sooners so Cornhuskers it is!
Nebraska 33, Oklahoma 31
· SEC: #1 Auburn vs. #19 South Carolina-There’s nothing I want to see more than Auburn lose. Not only are they using an illegible player (Yea, I know the NCAA says he is but they’re just that because he’s a Heisman lock on an undefeated team. Within the next two years they’ll rule him ineligible, all of Auburn’s wins will be forfeited & Newton will have to give up his Heisman. If you disagree I’m open to a wager), but an Auburn loss would throw the BCS to chaos. If Auburn loses Oregon will either have to face a team that didn’t win its own conference (Auburn), a non-AQ school who’s best win is against #20 Utah (TCU), a team Oregon already beat by three touchdowns (Stanford), or the voters will have to jump Wisconsin over all 3 in a week TCU, Stanford, & Wisconsin didn’t play. In other words no matter what happened 75% of the country would be calling bullshit (which of course is exactly what the BCS is). But while I hope that will happen I’m not picking it. Here’s to hoping that douche bag Steve Spurrier can prove me wrong.
Auburn 38, South Carolina 28
PAC-10:
· #2 Oregon at Oregon State-In the last month OSU has lost to UCLA, Washington State, & been blown out by Stanford 38-0. I am not picking them.
Oregon 48, OSU 17
· Washington at Washington State-Thanks to Arizona’s free fall over the last four weeks a Washington win could inexplicably get them to the Alamo Bowl, where they would most certainly get embarrassed by whatever Big 12 team shows up (such a scenario would also send Arizona back to its beloved Holiday Bowl). Hard to see Jake Locker lose his last rivalry game with a bowl birth on the line but Washington State did just win its first PAC-10 game since the Bush Administration (the 2nd one, come on they’re not that bad), so who knows what will happen.
Washington 20, WSU 16
· USC at UCLA-USC’s coming off back-to-back losses to Oregon State & Notre Dame by a combined score of 56-23, while UCLA’s coming off back-to-back losses to Washington & ASU by a combined score of 79-41. Whatever, I’ll take the more talented Trojans.
USC 34, UCLA 20
